Day 1: Turning Away from Sin
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is
faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,
he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” [1 Corinthians 10:13]
The realization that Christianity means turning one’s back on sin is not just an initial
act but a lifelong act of departing from the world to be with God. To turn away from sin, we
must start by renewing our minds through God’s Word (Romans 12:2). This renewal assists
us in discerning the Lord’s will and resolve to act on that will. Sharing with brethren can also
encourage and challenge us to keep pushing forward, knowing that other believers are on a
similar journey. Wisdom teaches us to flee from situations that lead us into temptation, just as
Joseph fled from Potiphar’s wife (Genesis 39:12). However, turning from sin is not an
independent effort but primarily and only a divine work.
Thank You, Lord, for always allowing me to escape temptations. Please teach me how
to see them and then follow you. Let me behave accordingly, reject sin, and accept You and
Your will. Amen
